About the Transformation Series

Process Detals

Created using Rhinoceros; printed at the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design FabLab on a FormLabs resin printer. Clear resin, painted in layers of silver tones. Holes for embroidery are incorporated into the 3D modeling, with embroidery applied after printing and painting.

Concept

Today, the rush towards technological innovation and the charm of traditional craft methods are seen as diametrically opposed thought processes, with different end goals. But what happens when these meet? The meeting of these processes reminded me of the way grass grows into pavement; both are strong enough to invade each other's space. How can we make this a harmonious coexistence?

Process

Designed in adobe illustrator, the intersections are both angled and perpendicular; footprint pieces are scored and bent to create repetition. All pieces intersect to hold the shoe together; no glue used. Straps sewn to wood loops.

Not quite wearable, but the shoe is shaped to a Right foot.

Concept

The chair design was meant to transform a bulky, hard material and technical, dirty process into a usable, sturdy object that feels much more organic. While the chair is actually very heavy, visually it appears light, intricate, and beautiful.

Process

Designed in adobe illustrator, then transferred to V-Carve to prepare for CNC cut. Three unique pieces: Sides, seat and back slats, and undercarriage slats. Undercarriage slats line into slots, then rotated slide down to stay in place. Held together by interlocking slats; no glue, screws, or fasteners of any kind.
