SURFACE Design
This body of creative research explores the use of digital fabrication technology in making clothes, focusing specifically on how these digital tools affect the creative design process. When considered as tools in the making arsenal, they introduce opportunities for creativity, efficiency, and innovation to become integrated into the design of clothing. Here, I consider both practical and aesthetic reasons to include digital tools in the design development repertoire, to uncover how incorporating their use creates this space for more efficiency, better use of materials, and expanded creativity. Instead of focusing on the tools and the processes themselves, this research looks at how their capabilities can be incorporated into the design process to make the work of designing a more intentional, problem-solving activity as a result.
